Data Centre

Data centre is an IT functional facility used to house computer systems and associated components, such as communications and storage systems. In the past, business-critical IT equipment has been housed across the University, often in small spaces which were not originally designed to house servers and equipment. University of Kerala owned a tier 3 Data Centre is specifically designed for this purpose and it conducting different online activities under the control of Computer Centre. The Data Centre was established in 2013, which act as a sense of place in University’s IT activities. It keeps high standards for assuring the integrity and functionality of its hosted computer environment. This is accomplished through redundancy of mechanical cooling and power systems (including emergency backup power generators) serving the data center along with fiber optic cables. . Our Data Centre designed with security in mind from the outset. It offers many technical measures including biometric, proximity reader entrance system; anti-tailgating security portal and proximity card access. The Data Centre operated unmanned whilst still allowing 24 x 7 access for those who have equipment housed there. For additional security, we also have 365 degree CCTV systems and a full audit trail at rack level of who opened a rack and for how long.


Flexible Architecture: Our flexible data center architecture delivers integrated management of IT infrastructure, applications and services.

High Scale Data Storage: We leverage high resilience capabilities to manage increasing volumes of enterprise data. Our data storage approach goes beyond the traditional approach and supports remote storage, data archiving, data accessibility and on-demand scalability.

Atmospheric Conditioning: The Data Center Facility is built with special units in which we use the automated Systems in pair built on a full redundancy loop. The average temperature maintained in the Data Center is 20 degrees. The environment is controlled for atmospheric composition and is based on bottom up airflow systems.

Co-location and Rack Space Services: We provide rack space, bandwidth and server management services for client needing co-location services. Our data centers offer a 99.99% uptime guarantee and bandwidth is available at any speed up to 10 Gbps. All bandwidth is provided to our co-location clients via dedicated 100 Mbps or 1000 Mbps Ethernet. Co-location clients may opt for remote console access to their equipment allowing them to view and manage activity on their devices from power-on.

Security: Five Zone Security, 3D Sensors, Access Controls, Datacenter Control Systems. Physical access to the Main Data Center facility is protected through a Biometric Finger-Print Scan facility with an added access card based authentication system.

Fire Suppression & Protection System: The entire facility around the data center is also equipped with a fire detection and smoke alarm system (including latest VESD but not limited) to alert the facilities administration group in case of fire hazards, before this can affect the data center.

Power: Power-packed arrangements to deal with unwanted cause, such as component failure, power fluctuations, catastrophes. N+ 1 redundancy, which ensures 99.95% system availability. All the important equipment, such as servers, telecommunication and networking devices are dual, powered to conquer unpredictable causes.
